An Insider’s Guide to Collecting Photography: Tips from a Pioneer Collector, Gallery Visits and an Auction Preview
Are you thinking about buying a photograph but unsure where to begin? Or are you a bit more experienced and want a deeper dive into collecting? Join us for a 5-session masterclass with Alice Sachs Zimet, a pioneer collector and Chair of both ICP's Collections Committee and Harvard’s Photography Curatorial Committee.
We'll start with two virtual sessions on the fundamentals of collecting: key questions to consider before making a purchase, where to shop (galleries vs. art fairs), and strategies for buying at auction. The next two sessions offer in person exclusive, behind-the-scenes visits to prominent photography galleries to meet with dealers and a close-up look at the works of artists they represent. The final class takes place on site at Christie’s Rockefeller Center to meet the specialists and preview the upcoming photography auction.
Whether you’re a seasoned collector, a photographer curious about the market, or just beginning your collecting journey, this workshop will equip you with the confidence, knowledge and new relationships to navigate today’s photography market.
Please note: April 8th's class will be held in-person at Christie's New York.
